Manufacturer FP McCann lines up to buy Scottish facility
Laing O’Rourke is in talks to sell one of its pre-cast concrete factories to Northern Ireland-based manufacturer FP McCann.
FP McCann, a 1,500-strong firm that produces and supplies pre-cast concrete products across the UK, confirmed the talks in a statement.
The firm is proposing to buy Laing O’Rourke’s pre-cast Uddingston factory (pictured) in Scotland, which produces products under the Bison brand. If the deal goes ahead 50 employees will transfer to FP McCann under the TUPE process.
Laing O’Rourke began a consultation with the affected employees yesterday (8 March) and it is expected no jobs will be lost. Both parties hope to conclude the deal by the end of this month.
Laing O’Rourke’s Bison brand and its other Swadlincote plant in Derbyshire will be unaffected.
FP McCann said the Uddingston factory was an “attractive asset” as the firm wants to “grow its manufacturing business in Scotland”, adding: “The offer from FP McCann will, we believe, allow for future investment and business growth at Uddingston.”
FP McCann has 12 manufacturing facilities throughout the UK, spanning from Cambridgeshire and Gloucestershire to Cheshire and Alnwick, but does not currently have a factory in Scotland.
