Contractor is redeveloping the former Royal Mail Sorting Office
Laing O’Rourke has been confirmed as the main contractor on the revamp of the former Royal Mail Sorting Office 21-31 New Oxford Street in central London.
The Post Building designed by AHMM for joint venture partners Oxford Properties and Brockton Capital will provide 270,000 sq ft of office space and feature a 7,500 sq ft rooftop garden.
The scheme will also include some retail and a doctor’s surgery and 21 south-facing affordable apartments.
In addition to the building, a new external space will be created with plans to reopen the historic route of Dunn’s Passage.
Liam Cummins, head of UK construction at Laing O’Rourke, said: “Work has already begun on site and we are looking forward to bringing the client’s vision to fruition.”
The demolition phase has now been completed and Laing O’Rourke has begun main construction with the project scheduled to complete next year.
