Job to wrap up in spring 2022
Kier has been picked to build the £19m Shakespeare North Playhouse at Prescot on Merseyside.
Client Knowsley council said main construction of the theatre will start in January. The project is expected to be finished in spring 2022.
When complete the Shakespeare North Playhouse will provide a 350-seat theatre, an outdoor performance garden, exhibition and visitor centre and educational facilities.
Initial enabling works have already been completed on site (pictured), while the building’s timber frame is being manufactured offsite.
This is being carried out by Reading firm McCurdy & Co, which has worked on historic theatres including Shakespeare’s Globe and the Sam Wanamaker Theatre both in London.
The project is being funded by the council, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, central government and donations from the private and philanthropic sector.
