CIC appoints Keith Clarke to head up its new health and safety committee

Atkins’ chief executive, Keith Clarke will be joining the Construction Industry Council (CIC) to head up its new health and safety committee.

The committee will represent professional bodies and professional service suppliers and monitor the implementation of the revised CDM Regulations next year to ensure they are being thoroughly put into practice. Its overarching role will be to lead the industry and inform it of the vital importance of health and safety in the built environment.

On his appointment, Clarke said: “I am delighted to chair the new standing committee and extremely pleased that CIC has taken the significant step of upgrading the profile of health and safety. Safety is not about policing but about behaviour and there must be a broad and deep consensus that unsafe sites or activities are unacceptable in any circumstances. This is the responsibility of all of us.”

CIC chairman, Nick Raynsford, said: “All of us in CIC are greatly looking forward to working with Keith to firmly fix health & safety as the highest priority across all our activities”
