Real estate firm buys Canadian firm ECD, the original developer of the Green Globes rating system
Real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle has acquired ECD Energy and Environment of Canada.
ECD is the original developer of the Green Globes environmental assessment and rating systems for commercial properties and proprietor of the new construction module in Canada.
The acquisition is part of the firm's strategy to help clients build profitable businesses through environmentally sustainable real estate use.
It included the recent acquisition of UK-based real estate sustainability services practice Upstream.
The Green Building Initiative (GBI) will retain licensing rights to develop and distribute two modules, Green Globes for new construction and for continual improvement of existing buildings in the US.
Canada's Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) will keep rights to further develop and distribute the existing buildings module in Canada under the brand name Go Green Plus.
Ward Hubbell, president of the GBI, said: “The acquisition will have no impact on GBI operations or our technical and marketing efforts with respect to the Green Globes tools as we will continue to operate as an independent, non-profit organisation.”
