JJ Rhatigan has been appointed to build the first phase of a £280m residential-led scheme in Luton.

Developer Strawberry Star Group is planning to build over 850 homes at the former Vauxhall Motors factory as part of the Luton scheme.

London-based Rhattigan has signed a deal to build the scheme’s first phase, which will be made up of 400 flats.

Phase 1 will also include retail space, a gym, a 300-room, 4-star hotel and 10,000m2 of gardens.

Rhattigan is due to complete phase 1 in the second quarter of 2021.

Flanagan Lawrence & Stuart Forbes Associates are the architects on the scheme, which will be spread across 6.9 acres.

Santhosh Gowda, chairman at Strawberry Star Group, said “Luton will significantly contribute to the local economy in one of the top performing towns for house price growth and entrepreneurial investment.”

Lu2on is part of the developer’s plans to deliver 4,000 new homes across London zones three to nine by 2025.
