Islington council approves a 35-storey residential tower overlooking a canal basin off the City Road.
A controversial 35-tower north of the City has won detailed planning consent from the London Borough of Islington.
The City Road Basin scheme designed by Squire and Partners provides 300 apartments within two 8-storey waterside blocks and a 35-storey glass tower. 35% of the apartments will be affordable.
Panning committee chairman Councillor George Allen, said: “This is a development we can be proud of. The height concerned me, but I have come around in the light of the scheme’s quality.”
The proposals lie at the heart of a masterplan for the City Road canal basin area, which was drawn up Bennetts Associates and was granted outline approval in 2004.
Fidelity Investments is the developer behind the scheme, Arup is the structural and services engineer and Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design is the planning consultant.
