Contractor will expand and revamp a shopping centre in the UAE
Interserve has won a £81m contract from Middle East developer Majid Al Futtaim to expand and revamp a shopping centre in the UAE.
Interserve’s local construction joint venture Khansaheb has been chosen to redevelop the City Centre Ajman mall in the Emirati city of Ajman.
Under the contract, Khansaheb will more than double the size of the existing mall from 32,000m2 to 70,000m2, expand a number of retails units and build a new car park, creating 2,400 new parking spaces.
Work has already started on the project, which is expected to be completed by July 2018.
The contract also includes the addition of new mechanical and electrical installations to serve the expanded mall, the creation of new walkways, food courts, offices and a children’s entertainment venue.
It also includes exterior landscaping work and the re-configuration of access roads leading to the mall.
Steve Flint, Khansaheb’s general manager said: “This contract win demonstrates Majid Al Futtaim Group’s ongoing confidence in Khansaheb’s capabilities in the retail sector, as it closely follows the successful expansion of Dubai’s premier shopping centre, Mall of the Emirates.”
The project will be delivered in a number of phases so the existing mall can remain open to the public.
