Firm will build a research centre in Wonford, Exeter
Support services giant Interserve has won a £19.4m contract to build a research centre in Wonford, Exeter under the NHS ProCure21+ framework.
The project is being delivered for joint clients the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of Exeter, and work is expected to begin on site in April 2012.
Devereux Architects designed the Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) Centre, which will take the form of a single building with four floors of facilities. The new structure will be linked at both ground and first floor levels to the existing Peninsula College of Dentistry and Medicine.
Funding of £4.75m has been granted by the Wellcome-Wolfson capitals award scheme, financed by the Wellcome Trust and the Wolfson Foundation as part of their investment in British scientific infrastructure.
The centre will host a research facility focusing on diabetes, as well as a redeveloped post graduate education centre and an IT training facility.
Completion is scheduled for the end of October 2013, and the finished building will feature a photovoltaic roof.
Interserve is one of the official principal supply chain partners for ProCure21+, and has been appointed on 15 projects for nine NHS Trusts since the framework began operating in its new form in 2010.
