Interserve has won a £30m contract to design and build an academy for Leeds council

The services, maintenance and building group secured the contract to develop Leeds West academy as part of the Leeds Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The academy, which will comprise three buildings and a sports pitch, is set to open in September 2011 to 1,500 pupils aged 11-18.

The announcement comes as the Education Department is reviewing all projects in the BSF pipeline, with those before the preferred bidder stage thought to be at risk.

David Paterson, managing director of Interserve Project Services, said: “We are creating a facility with the capacity to transform the life chances of children in west Leeds.”
