Rail, water, highways and environment work boost staff numbers
Growth in UK infrastructure work has boosted Atkins’ headcount in the UK, the listed engineering group announced today.
In a trading statement covering the past four months since 1 October 2012, Atkins said staff numbers increased due to growth in rail signalling, water, environment and highways work.
The firm said: “UK headcount has continued to increase, maintaining the momentum we experienced in the first half of the year.
“Our water and environment business is busy with High Speed 2 work and AMP5 framework activity and our defence and aerospace businesses continue to grow.
“Elsewhere, in our highways and transportation business, we have secured further design work in the period on the later upgraded sections of the M25 motorway as part of our joint venture.”
The firm said it had also “continued to invest” in its global energy business, where headcount grew 15% since the beginning of the year.
Headcount in cost consultancy division Faithful + Gould increased in the Asia Pacific region.
However the firm said Middle East profitability and cash flow had been impacted by negotiation of “outstanding contract variations [which continued to be] protracted and challenging”.
The outlook in North America was in line with expectations.
