Construction output grew 6.6% in the second quarter of 2010, helping boost GDP growth to higher than expected levels.
The new figures, released today by the Office of National Statistics, show a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the industry, which saw negative growth of 1.6% in the first quarter of this year.
The UK’s GDP growth was 1.1%, a significant improvement on the 0.3% growth seen in the first quarter of this year, and almost double the 0.6% growth predicted by the ONS for the second quarter of the year.
