The UK could soon benefit from a Green Building Council similar to that seen in the USA in proposals drafted by key figures in the industry.
In the proposal interested groups would form a coalition working towards the same ends in reducing carbon emissions and the environmental impact of new buildings. It is hoped that this single entity would be more successful in discussions with Government departments and in motivating all sectors of the UK construction industry to adopt greener practices.
Dr David Strong, managing director of BRE Environment, has been tasked with establishing the Green Building Council in the UK based on his experience of the successful US model. Once established the UK Green Building Council would then join the World Green Building Council sharing state of the art technical information with member countries like Australia, India and the US as well as emerging member countries including Brazil, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.
