The improving fortunes of the construction market over recent years has enabled 15 firms from the sector to make it into The Sunday Times’ Profit Track 100, which ranks the UK’s most profitable privately run firms over the last three years.
Contractor Abbey Manor Group was the top-ranked construction firm in 20th place. The profit of the Somerset-based firm has grown an average of 65% every year since 1997/98 to £4.274m last year. Electrical contractor Forth Holdings, whose profit has grown 62% to £6.475m over the period, was ranked 22nd.

Six housebuilders made it on to the list, with Leicestershire firm William Davis the highest placed at 29th. The firm’s profit has grown from £3.35m to £12.86m since 1997/98.

Other entries included: Bellwater (fit-out), 24th; Weston Homes (housebuilder), 32nd; Carvill Group (housebuilder), 37th; Fitzpatrick (contractor), 38th; Seddon Group (contractor), 49th; Chartdale (housebuilder), 51st; Higgins Group (contractor), 53rd; McTaggart & Mickel (housebuilder), 66th; Byrne Group (concrete frame contractor), 75th; FaberMaunsell (engineer), 92nd; Mouchel Associates (consultant), 97th; and Hillreed Holdings (housebuilder), 100th.
