HVCA chief executive Robert Higgs was one of many recognised for services to the construction industry.
Construction and regeneration professionals featured heavily in this week’s New Year honours list, with CBEs for representatives from Midas, the Tulloch Group and the public sector.
Midas group chairman Steve Hindley, who is a member of Building’s advisory board, was awarded the CBE for services to the construction industry.
Hindley said he was “delighted” with the honour, but claimed he had no idea how his name had been put forward. “It was a surprise, as these things always are,” he said.
“But the most important thing is that it reflects on what all the guys and the girls at Midas have been trying to do for the last few years, in terms of building long-term relationships and products.”
CBEs were given to John Savage, executive chair of Business West for his contribution to business and regeneration in the South-west, and Alistair Arkley, former chair of the Tees Valley Partnership, for services to regeneration in the North-east.
David Sutherland, chair of the Tulloch Group, and Anthony Edwards, head of buildings and estates management at the Home Office, gained the honour.
Marcus Binney, the founder and president of lobbying group SAVE Britain’s Heritage, also became a CBE for services to conservation of the built environment.
OBEs were also handed to industry figures. Robert Higgs, chief executive of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association was honoured for services to the environment.
Redrow executive deputy chairman Paul Pedley was recognised for services to business in Wales, while Servite Houses chair Marta Phillips gained the title for services to social housing.
Other OBE recipients included Peter White, former secretary of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, for services to heritage and Laing O’Rourke executive director Roy Adams for services to economic development and community relations in Northern Ireland.
