Proposals by New York firm for £30m overhaul go out for consultation next month

Selldorf Architects has revealed its plans to reconfigure the National Gallery ahead of its 200^th anniversary.

The practice beat a starry shortlist of David Chipperfield Architects, Caruso St John, Witherford Watson Mann, Asif Khan, Donald Insall, Publica and David Kohn Architects to land the job in July last year.

The brief was focused on making the gallery more welcoming and let the winning practice loose on Venturi Scott Brown’s grade I-listed Sainsbury Wing as well as its 19^th-century neighbour.
