Immigration officers have uncovered illegal Eastern European workers working on Wembley stadium.
In a raid on the project last week, officers seized five illegal Eastern European workers, believed to be from countries including new EU member states Bulgaria and Romania.
The workers were handed on-the-spot fines of £1,000 under recent measures introduced by home secretary John Reid to address fears over illegal workers from the two countries flooding the UK. It is understood that the workers were employed by subcontractors on the project.
A Multiplex spokesperson said the main contractor had co-operated with the raid.
He said: “The immigration authorities visited the site on Wednesday. It is our policy to co-operate fully.”
