Places for People will install solar hot water panels in all new homes if Sheffield pilot is a success
The UK’s largest housing association is aiming to install affordable solar panel heating systems in all its homes.
Places for People is installing an affordable solar panel heating system in three new homes on Norfolk Park in Sheffield. If the year-long pilot is successful the housing association says it will look at installing the panels in all its homes.
The solar panels manufactured by Viridian Solar cost around £850 per household and will provide hot water for the homes.
Nicholas Doyle, project director (environment) at Places for People, said: “The installation of these solar panels will help us to achieve a higher renewable energy target on our buildings and help reduce residents’ energy bills, providing both environmental and social benefits.”
The performance of the solar panels will be monitored remotely by the BRE.
