Housebuilding activity in March fell to its lowest level in 16 years, according to a survey of 800 UK construction firms carried out by Experian Business Strategies.
The survey revealed that housebuilding activity fell by seven index points to 43 during the month. A figure below the base level of 50 shows a decline, while more than 50 indicates a rise.
Construction activity fell by four points to 48, its lowest level in 12 years.
