The House of Lords has today begun an inquiry into the contentious issue of building nuclear power stations and disposal of nuclear waste.
The Lords EU sub-committee on environment and agriculture, led by Lord Renton of Mount Harry, is looking into EU proposals on legislation on safe practice in the controversial nuclear debate.
It will examine proposed laws on the safety of nuclear installations and the safe management of spent nuclear fuels and radioactive waste.
British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) director David Bonsar and the group's Brussels head, Richard Ivens, were due to evidence at the first hearing this morning.
