Stand built by Willmott Dixon has fallen prey to the UK’s severe weather
Today’s high winds have lifted the roof off one of the grandstands at Epsom Down’s racecourse, which was only completed by Willmott Dixon in 2009.
The contract for the 11,000 capacity Duchess stand was worth £25m and was awarded in 2007.
High winds lifted some tiles off the roof and some insulation resulting in the racecourse being evacuated amid safety concerns.
A full investigation of the reasons for the damage to the roof will follow.
