Architect Snell Associates has designed a modular building system for visitor pavilions that the National Trust can roll out on its sites across the country.
The pavilions can take the form of a rectangular kiosk measuring 3.7 × 2.4m or multiples of that size, and can contain shops, serveries, toilets, and cafe verandahs covered by a tensile fabric canopy. The modules are timber framed and faced in hardwood boarding. Snell Associates is preparing a planning application for the first pavilion, on the site of a historic buildings.
