The government is poised to announce a new chief executive for housing quango the Homes and Communities Agency as early as today.

Richard Hill, the HCA’s director of investment and Trevor Beattie, its director of strategy, are seen as favourites after the decision by David Lunts, the London director, not to stand for the post.

Lunts, who is in charge of the organisation’s biggest region,is understood to have decided not to stand because of the interim nature of the job, which is likely to be re-advertised
after a year.

The organisation’s existing chief executive Sir Bob Kerslake stepped down in September and will take up the post of permanent secretary at the communities department in November.
