HSE will investigate causes of injury to maintenance technician on University of Hertfordshire job
A maintenance worker has fallen and broken his leg while working at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening, with one report suggesting he may have fallen up to four metres into a boiler room pit.
A spokesperson for the university confirmed the incident. “The University of Hertfordshire is shocked about the incident that took place at its College Lane campus,” he said, “where a maintenance technician accidentally fell into a deep pit in a marked and restricted danger area.”
He added: “Although the university is already looking into the cause of the accident the Health and Safety Executive will be attending the site to carry out an independent investigation into how the incident happened. The technician is currently recovering from his injuries.”
