Developer plans two phase leisure-led development next to its WestQuay shopping centre
Developer Hammerson has submitted a planning application for 89,000 m2 a leisure-led development in Southampton alongside the city’s WestQuay shopping centre.
The £70m development, called Watermark WestQuay, has been designed by architect Acme. The first phase of the development includes a cinema, 15 restaurants, retail space and new public space along the historic walls of the city.
The second phase would include a residential tower, hotel, offices and more restaurants.
Guy Wells, development manager for Hammerson, said he hoped to gain planning permission for the development this year.
He added: “Watermark WestQuay will significantly improve the town’s leisure offer and night time economy.”
The development sits alongside the city’s 76,200m2 WestQuay shopping centre, which is jointly owned by Hammerson and GIC Real Estate, the real estate investment arm of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.
