Nirah, the £400m Grimshaw-designed aquarium in Bedford, received a boost this week when it was offered £38m of first-stage funding on receipt of planning permission.

There had been speculation that the project might be in jeopardy because of lack of money. The response to an outline planning application is expected in July.
