A centre aimed at nuturing sustainable engineering talents in young people has been recognised for its design quality
The Greenpower Education Trust headquarters near Fontwell in West Sussex has won a conservation award.
The centre, designed and built by Fordingbridge, was created for participants and staff of the Greenpower programme, a charity that encourages young people to get into sustainable engineering.
The building, which was officially opened in July, won the Arun District Conservation Area Advisory Committee Design Awards for 2010.
The HQ is a timber frame building and its green credentials include a green roof, super insulation, an air sourced heat pump and passive ventilation.
Jeremy Way, managing director of Greenpower, said: “The Greenpower Centre is a truly inspiring building with its many innovative but practical sustainable features creating a delightful working environment. All credit for this amazing building is due to Fordingbridge and the various project sponsors to whom we are extremely grateful.”
Fordingbridge collaborated with Emission Zero and Passivent on the low-energy solutions for the building.
