The 800,000 sq ft mixed use regeneration of the town’s waterways will take four years to complete
The £175m development of a former engineers in Huddersfield has been given the green light.
The mile long Waterfront Quarter fronting the River Colne and Huddersfield’s Narrow Canal was masterplanned by DLG Architects. The plans completed for client Ramsden and Colne Developments were approved by Kirklees Council.
As well as offices and apartments the 800,000 sq ft site will feature a hotel, gym, crèche, cafes and restaurants.
Andrew Gardner, partner at DLG explained: “We have worked extremely closely with Kirklees’ team along with key consultee’s such as British Waterways, English Heritage, the Civic Society and the Canal Society, to ensure that we create an exciting but importantly a sustainable and workable concept”.
Completion is expected in four years with construction of the first phase of apartments starting in spring 2007.
