New facility will help more than 6,000 women who have babies delivered by the hospital each year
Contractor Graham and joint venture partner Bam are to build a £57m new maternity hospital at Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital.
The new facility for Belfast Health and Social Care Trust will include delivery suites, obstetric theatres and the neo-natal intensive care unit.
There will also be a midwifery-led unit at the hospital providing with ensuite rooms, each with a birthing pool.
Karen Brookes, director of capital planning & redevelopment for the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, said the new facility would meet “the needs of more than 6,000 women who have their babies delivered by the Royal Jubilee Maternity Service each year”.
Ron Clarke, managing director for building at Graham Construction, said: “This new building will be a friendly and welcoming environment with state-of-the-art facilities and more choice, to better meet the needs of the women who will use it.”
