Consultant cost and project manager on £100m conversion of former Midland Grand Hotel

Consultant Gleeds has been appointed by Manhattan Loft Corporation as cost and project manager on the £100m conversion of the Grade I listed St Pancras Chambers in London.

The gothic-style former Midland Grand Hotel is situated in front of the new railway station.

Ian Miller, managing partner at Gleeds Bristol, said: “The conversion of St Pancras Chambers is an extremely bold scheme that will completely transform the existing building into a magnificent hotel and enhances St Pancras as a world class destination.”

MLC is working with London and Continental Railways to convert and restore the building, which has been empty since the 1980’s, into a 245 bedroom luxury hotel, complete with 67 modern apartments.

The original hotel will house 54 rooms while a new five-storey extension will be created at the rear of the building to take care of the remaining hotel accommodation.

The work will be carried out in accordance with National Heritage guidelines. It will include faithfully restoring the principal public rooms on the lower floors together with refurbishing the spectacular existing staircase.

Project completion is aimed for 2011.
