Surrey-based contractor to build £10m residential block as part of BioRegional Quintain's £200m regeneration of Middlebrough's docks
Surrey firm GB Building Solutions has won the first part of a £200m regeneration project destined to be the country’s largest zero carbon development.
The contractor, which has a regional office in Newcastle, has been awarded a deal to build a £10m residential block for BioRegional Quintain, which describes itself as a sustainable community developer.
The eight-storey building will contain a mixture of 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments, with retail space on the ground.
The contract is the first in the £200m RiversideOne regeneration of Middlesbrough’s Middlehaven docks, which the developer claims will be the UK’s largest zero carbon development.
Pete Halsall, BioRegional Quintain’s managing director, said: “We are now in a position to make our vision of RiversideOne a reality.
"We can begin to create a new district that will ultimately provide the people of Middlesbrough with outstanding homes in a waterside location, a public events space, innovative leisure facilities and new commercial property.”
Work is starting on site immediately and the first phase will take 17 months.
Later phases will include a hotel, commercial space and 750 homes in total.
