Tottenham Court Road site was closed for four hours earlier today
Workers have been forced to evacuate Laing O’Rourke’s Crossrail site at Tottenham Court Road due to a gas leak in the public realm area surrounding the station.
A spokesperson for Transport for London said the construction site ground to a halt and was evacuated for four hours between 10am and 2.30pm while the London Fire Brigade attended the scene.

While nearby offices were also evacuated as a precaution services from Tottenham Court Road tube station were unaffected.
No injuries were reported in the incident. TfL did not have details about the cause of the leak.
Laing O’Rourke referred all comment to Transport for London.
London Fire Brigade confirmed it had been called out to the job and a sweep of the site had been carried out.
