Contractor is named preferred bidder on new Worcester Library and History Centre
Contractor Galliford Try has secured a deal to build a £60m PFI cultural project in Worcester.
The firm has been appointed preferred bidder on the new Worcester Library and History Centre for Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester.
Plans include an integrated public and university library and the county archives and records office plus commercial and retail space.
The building, which is aiming for BREEAM Excellent, is expected to start on site in October and complete by January 2012.
Galliford Try chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: “We are delighted to be working with Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester to bring this important project to fruition.”
The council’s cabinet member for corporate services, Stephen Clee, added: “This has already been an example of partnership working at its best and now we are adding another partner to the mix. The Library and History Centre will be a building that stands out for years to come.”
