Four teams of architects have been shortlisted to design a £10m new library building at Newcastle College
Building understands the teams are Atkins, Ryder Architecture, PH Partnership and a collaboration between JM Architects and 10 Design, an Edinburgh-based practice largely made up of former RMJM architects.
However, they do not include RMJM, which has previously designed a series of projects on the Newcastle College campus including a new 11,000 sq m sixth form building which is due to open shortly.
The latest proposal is a library and information building located at the closest point on the site to Newcastle city centre and set to form a “visual gateway” into the wider campus.
It will include IT facilities and a cafe and will serve as the administrative headquarters of Newcastle college.
Two-year old firm 10 Design has worked largely in China to date and has yet to secure a British project.
