Four contractors have been shortlisted to build the £95m Co-op headquarters building in Manchester.
According to project sources, Laing O'Rourke, BAM Construct, Sir Robert McAlpine and Bovis Lend Lease made the cut for the 16-storey, 320,000 sq ft scheme last week.
The new headquarters is a mixed-use office, commercial and residential scheme and is the first phase of the redevelopment and regeneration of the Co-op's 8.1ha site, located in the city's Northern Gateway area.
The architect is 3D Reid and the consultant team includes Buro Happold and Gardiner & Theobald.
Work on site is due to start early next year with completion scheduled for 2012.
