Foster + Partners to unveil competition design for signature London bus

Foster + Partners has entered Boris Johnson’s competition to design a new Routemaster bus for London.

The practice is to unveil a futuristic, curved double-decker bus with a glass-covered ceiling as its competition entry. It would keep the original Routmaster’s open entrance at the rear of the bus, but a side panel would allow access for wheelchairs and prams.

Although the practice is on Design for London’s design framework, the competition is being wholly organised by Transport for London.

Boris Johnson, the London Mayor, launched a competition earlier this year to find a replacement to the “bendy buses” in the capital. A winner is expected to be announced next month.
