Jonathan Goring will become contractor’s head of major projects from 4 January next year
Laing O’Rourke has appointed Jonathan Goring as its new head of major projects.
The former Capita Symonds managing director will join the firm on 4 January next year.
Speaking to Building, Goring said he was “really looking forward” to starting in his new role, having a spent a “couple of years out of the sharp end” of the industry.
He said: “I admire (Laing O’Rourke) greatly. They’re a family business and their business ethic is superb. They’re putting so much back into the industry.”
Goring said his role will be global, with responsibility in “Europe and other hubs”, including Canada, UAE and Hong Kong.
Goring - a former professional racing sailor who has competed for Great Britain - left Capita in 2014 to work as project director on the Ben Ainslie Racing HQ in Portsmouth, which completed in May 2015.
He spent 14 years at Capita Symonds and also led Capita’s successful bid to become the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) strategic partner, which was won alongside consortium partners URS and PA Consulting.
Laing O’Rourke declined to comment on Goring’s appointment when contacted by Building.
