New images of New Street Station development released by Network Rail
Network Rail has released CGIs of the John Lewis department store which will form part of the proposed New Street Station development in Birmingham.
The £100 million project is due for completion in 2014 and will house one of the country’s largest John Lewis branches. The store itself will be located on the south side of the station and encompasses an overall upgrade of the Pallasades shopping centre.
Foreign Office Architects have drawn up designs for the project with the scheme going out to public consultation this week.
Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham City Council, unveiled the images at the Mipim conference in Cannes. He said: “This development is a real jewel in the new station’s innovative design and will bring real scale and activity to the new southern entrance.”
Launching the public consultation, Network Rail’s programme director, Andrew Skidmore said:
“Birmingham Gateway is vital to both the transport and economic future of Birmingham and will transform New Street into a world class station, stimulate regeneration and create new jobs.
“The new John Lewis department store makes the economic case for Gateway even stronger and we want people to let us know their views on the plans.”
