Architect gets go-ahead for affordable housing scheme in east London
Levitt Bernstein has received planning permission for an affordable housing scheme in Bermondsey, east London.
The scheme, which is part of the architect's masterplan for the regeneration of the Bermondsey Spa area, will provide 139 flats and maisonettes with 300m2 of commercial accommodation in four medium rise, high density blocks in Spa Road.
There is also the provision of public amenity spaces including the re-landscaping of a “green route” and the re-provision of an existing playground.
The brief from client The Hyde Group was to provide the maximum number of units with a tenure split of 50% private, 25% shared ownership and 25% affordable all to Lifetime Homes and Ecohomes Very Good Standards.
All units are dual aspect and family units are located on ground floors to allow access to the gardens. Undercroft parking features tree planting growing from the parking level through a landscaped podium.
