Grant Associates carrying out landscape work
Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has linked up with landscape architect Grant Associates to revamp Sheffield University’s city centre campus site.
The university wants the site opened up to the public and better integrated with the steel city with a masterplan due to be rolled out over the next 10-15 years.
Along with new green spaces – including garden terraces and courtyards – extra crossings for cyclists will be added while a bike hub will feature space for 500 bikes. Leavygreave Road will be closed to cars providing shared space for pedestrians and cyclists.
Work also includes adding a new science facility while a number of existing buildings will be overhauled.
The university’s director of estates and facilities Keith Lilley said: “Developing an estate which allows us to provide world-class teaching and learning facilities for our students and staff is a major priority. But so too is the desire to be firmly part of our city.”
