Consultant’s masterplan highlights areas most in need of refurbishment
Faithful + Gould has been appointed by Newman College of Higher Education in Birmingham to provide masterplanning, quantity surveying and building surveying services as part of a scheme to improve college buildings and attract more students.
Working with consultant engineer Couch Perry & Wilkes, the consultant has produced a masterplan for the college highlighting areas and facilities most in need of refurbishment, and identifying those that should take priority.
Nigel Brant, managing surveyor on the project, said: “With the government doing all it can to encourage more young people into higher education, institutions are having to be fully prepared for the rising numbers of applications, and know that their buildings and facilities need to be attractive and fully equipped.”
One action is the upgrade of the main lecture theatre, with Faithful + Gould providing project management and quantity surveying services.
Tony Sharma, Newman director of finance, said: “Taking a long-term, strategic approach to campus developments enables us to ensure we meet the current and future needs of students, staff and our local community.
Faithful + Gould and our other professional advisers assist us in making these strategic decisions, and gain maximum value from every pound invested.”
