Premier League club has bought a site from Peel Holdings
Everton has agreed a land deal with Peel Holdings to develop a new stadium on Liverpool’s waterfront.
The Premier League club has purchased land at Bramley Moore Dock on the Mersey, reportedly for under £30m.
The site forms part of Peel Holding’s wider £5.5bn waterfront redevelopment Liverpool Waters.
The deal, which would see Everton build a new home after 125 years at Goodison Park (pictured), was confirmed by the club and Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson this afternoon.
Robert Elstone, Everton chief executive, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to agree heads of terms with Peel, giving us control of the Bramley Moore Dock site and allowing us the time we need to complete the substantial further work required to be able to confirm the project’s viability.”
Anderson said: “I understand that creating this financial arrangement is a small step in a long journey for the Club, but it is the first step and for that reason it is a special moment in the city’s - and Everton’s - long illustrious history.”
