Building products group snaps up Smiths (Construction) for £3.75m.
Building products group Ennstone has bought East Midlands roadbuilder Smiths (Construction) for £3.75m.
The road surfacing contractor, based in Newark, Nottinghamshire, has 102 employees and will operate as part of Ennstone Johnston, the group's English aggregates division.
Smiths posted a pre-tax profit of £410,000 in the year to 30 April 2005, on turnover of £17.96m.
The acquisition follows that last October of West Midlands-based surfacing contractor J & H Parry.
Ennstone has also bought two US-based ready-mixed concrete operations, Roxbury Ready-Mix in Richmond, Virginia and B&B Concrete in Keyser, West Virginia.
It has also expanded its ready-mix concrete business in Poland.
Vaughan McLeod, chairman, said: "Smiths is a key acquisition for Ennstone. It opens up a full route to market in our UK, East Midlands region and takes a significant step forward towards a fully integrated English business model."
