190m-tall bridge in Sunderland, which will span 336m over the Wear, has received planning permission from council
Sunderland council has approved plans for what will be England's tallest bridge.
The 190m-tall bridge, which will span 336m over the Wear, has received cross-party backing and received planning permission this week. Designed by Spence Associates, which also designed the Infinity footbridge over the Tees, it will be a cable-stay bridge with curving steel masts.
Construction is planned to start in 2012 and will be completed in 2015.
