Police launch arson investigation after fire damages Grade II-listed structure
Police have launched an arson investigation into a blaze that ripped through Eastbourne Pier last week that destroyed about a third of the historic structure.
Sussex Police this week said the force had received information suggesting the fire was started by someone “either deliberately or accidently”.
At its height, up to 80 firefighters tackled the blaze on the 144-year-old Grade II-listed pier.
Last week, David Cameron and George Osborne visited the site and pledged £2m of government money to help restore it.
