The deadline to submit written evidence to the DTI’s inquiry into construction has been extended for a fortnight to 18 May.

The inquiry covers subjects such as payment practices, investment in skills, health and safety and building regulations.

A DTI spokesperson said: “People are still free to submit evidence, but the earlier we get it, the more consideration it will get.”

The DTI announced the inquiry on 29 March and invited interested parties to submit up to 10 pages of written evidence.

The Specialist Electrical Contractors Group had been given a further week to submit its evidence before the deadline was extended.

Rudi Klein, its chief executive, said it had wanted to streamline its submission to fit into a 10-page document.

The inquiry is the most extensive review of the construction industry ever undertaken by the DTI.
