Government's Casino Advisory Panel ranks the Millennium Dome as the most suitable of the UK's super casino candidates
The Millennium Dome has emerged as the front-runner to host the UK’s first super casino after being ranked as provisional favourite by the government’s Casino Advisory Panel.
In a list ranking the eight candidates to host the casino in provisional order of suitability, the Casino Advisory Panel placed Greenwich’s Millennium Dome bid top, followed by Glasgow. The remaining candidates have been ranked in the following order: Blackpool, Sheffield, Brent, Newcastle, Cardiff and Manchester.
The announcement, made yesterday, follows weeks of controversy over deputy prime minister John Prescott’s stay on a ranch belonging to Philip Anschutz, owner of the Dome. Opposition politicians have questioned whether Prescott has become too close to the billionaire.
The panel will announce the venue for the super casino in December.
