Architect Austin-Smith:Lord’s design for Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon, County Durham, has been shortlisted for the Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year and the Conservation Awards.
Opened in September the £11m attraction is the first national museum to be built in the North-east. It combines the historic buildings and railway workshops of the Timothy Hackworth Museum in Shildon with a 557 m2 building that houses more than 70 locomotives.
