Lincolnshire home of aerobatic squadron slated for closure
Developers and investors have been given the opportunity to redevelop the Lincolnshire home of the Red Arrows.
West Lindsey District Council is seeking a partner to deliver a £300m overhaul of the RAF Scampton site, which has hosted Britain’s premier aerobatic display team since the millennium.
The council has outlined a range of potential uses for the site, including arts and entertainment buildings, a hotel, accommodation, shops, restaurants, a runway and a museum.
The base, located north of Lincoln, has been slated for closure since 2018, when the Ministry of Defence announced cost-cutting measures.
The council subsequently made an expression of its interest in the site and are in negotiations with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to acquire the site from the MoD.

It hopes to conclude the sale and appoint a development partner, which would lead in managing, masterplanning and regenerating the site, by the end of the year.
Firms have until 8 August to bid for the partnership contract, which will run for 10 years from the start of March 2023.
West Lindsey District Council leader Owen Bierley said the site’s transition away from air force use would be an “economic driver” for the region which would be “held as an exemplar of best practice in years to come”.
The Red Arrows will be relocated to RAF Waddington, another base in the county. The Mobile Meteorological Unit currently based at RAF Scampton will also be required to move.
