Stadium will replace club’s current 19th century home at Dens Park and boost capacity by more than 700 seats
A Glasgow-based architect has been appointed to design a new stadium and mixed-use regeneration project for Dundee FC.
Holmes Miller Architects has worked up a planning application with Dundee architect LJRH which is set to be submitted this month.
The plans would see the construction of a new stadium in the Camperdown area of the city to replace the Dark Blues’ current home at Dens Park, which dates back to 1899.
The new stadium would have a capacity of 12,500, a boost of more than 700 seats compared to Dens Park.
Dundee, which is currently placed seventh in the Scottish Premiership, says the stadium will be designed to amplify the matchday atmosphere with a safe-standing tribune, activated concourse areas and LED screens.
A 1,000-capacity venue, tiered hospitality experiences, a 250-capacity brewhall, a training centre, a 120-room hotel, a crematorium and a residential development will also be built under the plans.
Holmes Miller project director Ian Cooney said the new stadium will offer a “21st century fan experience to engage a new generation of Dundee FC supporters”.
“Our stadium concept will embrace the spirit and heritage of Dens Park, with authenticity key to the design. It will be centred around a modern matchday experience for Dundee fans, with the ability to flex for a variety of cultural and civic events on non-matchdays,” he said.

The club’s chief executive John Nelms added that the plans will seek to make the stadium campus a key part of Dundee’s regeneration.
He said: “We look forward to working in partnership with the council throughout this process and want to give Dundee fans a stadium befitting our future ambitions, one that is viable seven days a week through various entertainment and event offerings – in addition to cheering on the Dark Blues.
“It is our commitment to a bright and sustainable future for our club and the city and we are excited to share a glimpse of what that future will look like.
“We hope that as well as exciting fans, the visualisation of the new stadium shows we are determined to honour our history and heritage and make sure Dens Park, which has been our spiritual home for almost 125 years, can inspire the design of our new home and shape the club’s future.”
